2 CONT My grandfather stayed with me and my sister a few winters while my
2 CONT father and mother went to Miami Beach for winter vacations.  I
2 CONT recall grandpa asking me to open the liquor cabinet so he could
2 CONT have a "schnapps", scotch or vodka.  I also enjoyed the sight of
2 CONT his sipping tea from an hugh samovar in the back of the grocery
2 CONT store he had in Brooklyn.  I was introduced to halvah, persimmons,
2 CONT and chocolate covered jelly rings in that store.  But I was
2 CONT fascinated about grandpa's habit of sticking a cube of sugar in his
2 CONT mouth while he sipped syrupy tea from a tall glass.  That sugar
2 CONT cube melted ever so slowly!  How did he do it.
2 CONT 
2 CONT I am left with an impression that he left over a dozen siblings in
2 CONT Lepel' and that some went to South Africa, among other places.

2 CONT My father felt we were related to Ya'akov Sverdlov the first Primer of the
2 CONT U.S.S.R.  When I went to Israel in 1969 I looked up and befriended the
2 CONT Sverdlov's descended from Ya'akov's brother, who walked to Palestine and
2 CONT founded Gedera an agricultural community near Rehovet.

2 CONT GRANDPA did not talk about Lepel'.   I understood he came from a very large
2 CONT family.

2 CONT Harry arrived in Montreal as a small child.  He grew up on Sanguinette St. in
2 CONT the poorest section.  I remember seeing the homes before they were torn down.
2 CONT The staircases from the backyard to the second story apartments.  Both my
2 CONT grandfathers lived near each other.  Grandpa had worked for the CNN, drove a
2 CONT horse drawn cart selling milk, and then had a grocery store.  My grandmother
2 CONT died quite young and my father told me about his work.  He would deliver shoes
2 CONT to the prostitutes in a local "cat" house for a few cents.
2 CONT 
2 CONT As a teenager he came to Brooklyn and stayed with Davidson family, tanta & Ben
2 CONT Dickman's.  He already was ambitious and held two jobs.  He got into the
2 CONT electrical union, I.B.E.W. local 3.  When the depression started he went to
2 CONT Carl Johnson and they started an electrical contracting firm. It was 1936.
2 CONT His finist hour was making the front page of the New York Times with a picture
2 CONT of the lighting of the Verrazano Bridge in November 1963. Gay Tallese was
2 CONT writing the book "Bridge".
2 CONT 
2 CONT ADDRESS: He was born in Lepel', Lepel' district, Vitebsk oblasti, Vitebsk
2 CONT gubernia.  If Uncle Jack was a baby in their passport photo then they must
2 CONT have travelled between 1910 and 1913.  Within a few years my grandmother died.
2 CONT I heard it was a painfull ending.  The children were very young.  Rose was 14.
2 CONT Auntie Anne and Uncle Jack were blue eyed blonds.  Aunt Rose and my father
2 CONT were dark hair and eyes and swarthy complexions.  They moved to Sanguanette
2 CONT Street, Montreal.  When my father was a teenager he and a friend, Hy Seltzer,
2 CONT took a bus to New York City.  Hy went back within a few months.  My dad lived
2 CONT first with the Dickman family, later on Buffalo Avenue, Brooklyn.
2 CONT 
2 CONT After he and my mother married they moved to West 179th Street near Columbia
2 CONT Presbyterian Hospital.  In 1939 they bought 566 North Columbus Avenue, Mt.
2 CONT Vernon, New York and lived there the rest of there lives.  Twenty-two years
2 CONT for my mother and twenty-seven for my father.                              0

2 CONT After my father died, Adrienne, Andrew and Lisa move to Mt. Vernon, NY and
2 CONT lived in my childhood home (redecorated and remodelled by Adrienne).  We
2 CONT stayed until Lisa was 8 and with Jill and Harry and the live in help, a young
2 CONT farm girl from Iowa, Joyce Allender, we moved to Larchmont.  It was 1963 and
2 CONT the height of my career.  I had just completed to World Port for Pan American
2 CONT at JFK International Airport, New York.
2 CONT 
2 CONT Forget the next thirty years...now I work as an electrical estimator and do
2 CONT genealogy!  Lisa & Jill are married and live in different parts of New Jersey.
2 CONT Harry works in computer software near Boston.

2 CONT work in Pelham and Mt. Vernon for the firm he started with Carl G. Johnson.

2 CONT Nature provides us forms in flux. Clouds, water, waves and weather are in continual turmoil in the California landscape and coastal seascape, moving and churning through sequences of varying aspects. Their moods can vary from tranquil to ominous
2 CONC . My art is concerned with these changing moods of our surroundings, not only to capture the moments of individual moods, but also to convey the movement from one landscape environment to another. I have been exploring the dynamics of unstructure
2 CONC d forms, such as clouds and water in landscapes and seascapes. My subjects are chameleons. They assume different guises at different times of day or different weather conditions. My clouds dramatize the landscape by giving it a dynamic character

2 CONT her first view on Saturday (he was born C Section 7:00 AM Thursday.).
