My Grandmother's Passport, Sonia Sverdlova ~ Sonja Swerdlow , shows one example of how Sverdlov became Swerdlow. In Argentina, Gitel Swerdlow became Catalina Sverdloff.

Some families have extensive genealogies amassed because folks like you furnished or added information. Most of the families circa 1875, and even earlier, were very large. Using the "Search" tool, one can enter locations as well as names. Buffalo, or any town, county, etc. Use the "Search" box, choose Soundex, choose Daitch-Mokotoff, enter any one of more terms in "Given name", "Last name", "Place" for a wider search.

Click the "Tree" tab on these families for extensive Descendancy trees.

This website has additional "Tags" besides the GEDCOM 5.5 Standard GEDCOM Tags in PGV. Contact me to add Birth Name, Yiddish (kinnui or secular) Name, Hebrew (shem ha'kodesh or sacred) Name, Formally Known As, etc. For an article on The use of alternative names by Jewish families go to CALQUES, KINNUIM and COUPLETS by by James B. Koenig. Under each individual's Personal Facts and Details is "Add new fact". Open the list and choose "Shem ha'Kodesh" for Hebrew name, and Kinnue Calque for Yiddish name related to Hebrew name (e.g. Dov/Ber Menachem/Mendl) or just Kinnue for Yiddish name.
